Steph Farber

Steph is an LA-based, queer, Jewish filmmaker whose stories feature complex female characters, queer joy and magical realism. Her debut film, Smokescreen, won Best in Show at the inaugural SPLIFF film festival in 2019 and played at the LGBTQ+ Los Angeles and Seattle Queer film festivals. Steph has since written, directed and produced three other short films, What Carrie Saw, Digital Warfare, and It’s a Wonderful Chai.

Her most recent film, It’s A Wonderful Chai, is currently in post-production. For this project, Steph added acting and editing to her multi-hyphenate resume. It’s a Wonderful Chai is an intimate examination of life and death through the lens of Jewish mysticism.

Steph is currently developing a sapphic sports musical, Love at First Down, inspired by her experience of finding community with a queer flag football team.

Steph believes wholeheartedly in the connections we form with and through film and television. She fell head over hi-tops for the filmmaking process; and watching and making films has been a way for her to process her emotions and find peace in her experiences. Her directorial mission is to work with queer collaborators and spread queer joy through films about complex queer characters. She wants her films to be a place for other queers to feel seen.

Steph is an Upright Citizens Brigade alum and a Seattle Pun Slam Comedy Champion. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, woodworking, solving puzzles, singing in community choir and spending time with her girlfriend and their two perfect cats.
